After the war, in 119 prisoners in California are still confined to a few military pro coming from all over Italy. The Italian folk songs, played by a gramophone, are the background to the memories of each of them: the Roman Joseph, almost happy to stay at the camp rather than return to a wife obsessive and hysterical, the Neapolitan Don Vincenzino, an impoverished nobleman by too many gambling debts, which remains true only the driver Gennaro, Nane, the Venetian gondolier fell into the mistake of falling in love with one of his clients. All through the glow zoni live nostalgia and hope, dreaming of returning sooner or later in their beloved Italy. Some of the greatest interpreters of the Italian cinema of the 40s and 50s are the protogonisti of this charming Christmas night in a prison camp in California at the end of World War secon do. Sadness, melancholy and hope, but also humor, cheerfulness and fun, in a comedy written, among others, also by Fabrizi and de Sica.
