Nelson Eddy stars in this charming adaptation of Maxwell Anderson and Kurt Weill’s stage musical. Set in 17th-century New Amsterdam, the story follows newspaper publisher Brom Broeck (Eddy) as he goes up against Peter Stuyvesant (Charles Coburn), the corrupt incoming governor who not only tosses Brom in jail on a trumped-up charge, he also plots to steal his girl (Constance Dowling).
