Director Chris Marker pays tribute to his friend and colleague, Andrei Tarkovsky, with this documentary retrospective of the Soviet filmmaker's career that features footage of Tarkovsky at work on his final movie, "Sacrifice," and shortly before his 1986 death from lung cancer. Also included are two other looks at Russian life: Marina Goldovskaya's "Three Songs About Motherland" (2008), which examines post-Soviet life in three cities; and "In the Dark" (2004), Sergey Dvortsevoy's haunting chronicle of a elderly blind man who spends his time making bags out of discarded string in his Moscow apartment. 135 min. total.
