Emotionally charged film version of Anna Quindlen's novel stars Renée Zellweger as Ellen Gulden, a young New York magazine writer who reluctantly returns to her upstate hometown to help look after her ailing mother Kate (Meryl Streep). Long-standing conflicts between the independent Ellen, seemingly simplistic homemaker Kate, and patriarch George (William Hurt) are brought to the surface. Directed by Carl Franklin ("One False Move"). 128 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French; Subtitles: Spanish; production notes; biographies; theatrical trailer.
