In early-'90s Kentucky, Sharon Stevens (Hilary Swank) was a hard-drinking hairdresser with few concerns beyond the next night's bar-hopping. Ed Schmitt (Alan Ritchson) was a newly widowed roofer trying to hold it together for his kids, including a youngest (Skywalker Hughes) who'd eventually need a liver transplant.
