Noirish filming of Irwin Shaw’s play "The Gentle People" stars John Garfield as Harold Goff, a Brooklyn mobster who squeezes weekly protection money from two humble Sheepshead Bay fishermen (Thomas Mitchell and John Qualen). But when Goff sets his sights one of the men’s daughter (Ida Lupino)--and she doesn’t exactly resist--the two pals plot to get rid of the gangster once and for all. Eddie Albert co-stars. 92 min.
