When snooty socialite Joanna (Goldie Hawn) takes a tumble off her yacht and wakes up with amnesia, grubby carpenter and widower Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell)--whom she earlier stiffed for the work he did remodeling her closet--convinces her they're married and takes her home to meet "their" four children, getting her to work off what she owes him by doing household chores.
