Composer John Cage's painting "Chess Pieces" is transcribed by Margaret Leng Tan into a performance score, heard for the first time in this exciting program. Also, Ms. Tan performs Cage's 1946-48 "Sonatas and Interludes"; Tan stars in and narrates "Mr. Cage's Prepared Piano," which includes excerpts of Cage's "Bacchanale"; "Cage and the Art of Chess" examines the "Chess Pieces" material in detail; and, hear the only recording of composer Vittorio Rietl's "Chess Serenade." 172 min. total.
