Tom Hanks is brash medical student Steven Gold, who finds his true calling on the comedy club boards; Sally Field is rough-around-the-edges stand-up Lilah Krytsick, who’s looking for a little polish for her act. Together the unlikely friends work out the kinks in their routines, culminating in a comedy concert contest for a shot at a prime-time TV gig.
