His fiancée killed during a robbery, rancher Vern Haskell (Arthur Kennedy) sets about tracking down the outlaws responsible. His search leads him to Altar Keane (Marlene Dietrich), a saloon singer who runs a horse ranch that doubles as a hideout for crooks on the run.
