In this noir-flavored thriller with a fantasy twist, a Broadway actress (Joan Leslie) shoots her abusive husband (Louis Hayward) on New Year's Eve and runs out into the street to a friend's home, wishing she could relive the past year over. Abruptly finding herself one year back in time on the previous New Year's, she sets out to change the events leading up to that fateful night...but can her destiny be altered?
