Dennis Potter wrote and directed this unusual British psychological drama, based on his novel "Ticket to Ride." Alan Bates stars as John, a middle-aged man who suffers an anxiety attack on a train ride, causing him to lose the ability to distinguish between delusion and reality. John becomes lost in his own mind, consumed by murderous thoughts and sexual fantasies, and tormented by an imaginary friend he conjured up long ago.
