After Ziyu (Deng Chao) of the Pei kingdom lost in combat to Yang Cang (Hu Jun) of the Yang kingdom, and the city of Jingzhou fell to Yang as a result, Ziyu relentlessly lobbied his emperor (Zheng Kai) to allow a rematch. These demands, however, were being made by Jingzhu (Deng, again)--a look-alike trained by the recovering Ziyu as a stand-in--and the pose would have stunning consequences, in Zhang Yimou's evocative wuxia.
