In the early 1950s, reserved British writer-theologian and "Chronicles of Narnia" creator C.S. Lewis (Anthony Hopkins) had his first face-to-face with a correspondent and admirer, the feisty American poet Joy Davidman Gresham (Debra Winger). Their immediate rapport led to an in-name-only marriage to avoid her deportation--which blossomed into much more after her diagnosis with cancer.
