San Francisco shopkeeper Bertha (Aline MacMahon) gives a down-on-his-luck sailor Tim (Paul Kelly) a job, and it isn't long before the pair is headed down the aisle, in "Side Streets." But their happiness is short-lived thanks to the appearance of a woman from Tim's past, who claims he's the father of her child, and Bertha's flirtatious sister, who has set her sights on the sailor. And, "Stranger in Town" is a seriocomic tale about how the residents of a small town rally around their local grocer when he stands up to a corporate chain store that has moved into the neighborhood.
