A trio of Yasujiro Ozu's silent works is included in this three-disc set. The hard-working patriarch of an affluent Japanese family receives a healthy bonus from the insurance firm he works for but is promptly fired when he stands up for a fired co-worker, forcing him to deal with life on the unemployment line, in "Tokyo Chorus" (1931). Tokihiko Okada, Emiko Yagumo star. After seeing their father demean himself to gain favor with his boss, two young boys launch a hunger strike in order to win an explanation, in "I Was Born, But..." (1932). Tatsuo Saito, Hideo Sugawara star. And, a widower's struggle to raise his son is only made worse when he meets a young woman and finds he must contend with the boy's jealousy, in "Passing Fancy" (1933). With Takeshi Sakamoto, Nobuko Fushimi. 6 2/3 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: Dolby Digital mono music score. Silent with music score.
