Inspired by a 1669 German novel involving the Thirty Years' War and the exploits of an adventurous vagabond based somewhat on its author, the affecting anti-war opera by Karl Amadeus Hartmann, first performed in 1948, receives a splendid revival in this Stuttgart State Opera production. The cast includes Claudia Mahnke, Frank van Aken, and Heinz Gohrig. 85 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: German PCM stereo; Subtitles: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish. In German with English subtitles.
