While on a 1941 tour of the Soviet Union, American symphony conductor John Meredith (Robert Taylor) fell head over heels with pianist peasant girl Nadya Stepanova (Susan Peters). After their impetuous marriage, however, German tanks rolled over the border...and she packed off for her rural hometown to join the Resistance.
