Intrigue and romance are in equal supply in the British thriller "Spy in White," starring James Mason as Larry Destime, a military officer who is given a job managing a tobacco warehouse in Turkey by his girlfriend's father. Destime becomes involved with a Russian girl (Valerie Hobson) who is the unwitting pawn in an Arab prince's plot to overthrow the Turkish government. With Kay Walsh, Cecil Ramage. AKA: "The Secret of Stamboul." Then, loosely based on a pair of W. Somerset Maugham stories, Alfred Hitchcock's realistic, darkly funny thriller "Secret Agent" is one of cinema's first forays into the world of espionage. During World War I, a famed British novelist's (John Gielgud) death is faked so he can work as a secret agent on a dangerous mission to track down and eliminate an enemy spy. Madeleine Carroll, Peter Lorre, Robert Young also star. 168 min. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English.
