In her heyday, Margaret Elliott (Bette Davis) was an Academy Award-winning actress who had all of Hollywood at her feet. That was a while ago, though, and the maturing Margaret now finds both career opportunities and financial resources drying up. Bottoming out on a bender, she’s bailed out by an admiring ex-actor/boat mechanic (Sterling Hayden), but will his kind attentions let her come to terms with time?
