Retromedia presents a double-feature DVD with two widescreen science fiction cult epics: STAR PILOT and KING OF KONG ISLAND. Hoping to cash in on America's fascination with all things Star Wars, Monarch Releasing quickly grabbed the 1966 Italian space opera 2+5: Mission Hydra and rushed it into theaters as STAR PILOT. To make the film more like the George Lucas classic, the distributors hastily inserted special effects scenes from another low-budget sci-fi movie, The Doomsday Machine (1972), which made no sense at all within the context of the original film. These added scenes have been removed from the feature presentation of STAR PILOT for this DVD edition, but are available as a bonus item for the curious. KING OF KONG ISLAND (1968) is an adventure/sci-fi film originally titled Eve: The Wonder Woman. The film features no King, no Kong, and no Island. Movie tough guy Marc Lawrence (Diamonds Are Forever) goes up against peplum star Brad Harris (Goliath against the Giants) in this full 92 minute version which is complete with gory gorilla brain surgery and all the female nudity formerly missing. Both features are presented in 16x9 widescreen transfers from 35mm film elements.
