Warner Brothers turned out many fine biodramas in the ‘30s, and nearly all of them seem to star Paul Muni. Here, Muni earned the Best Actor Oscar for portraying the famed 19th-century French researcher who fought an entrenched and dismissive scientific community to promote his vaccines for anthrax and hydrophobia. Absorbing effort that also won both writing Oscars co-stars Josephine Hutchinson, Anita Louise, Donald Woods, Fritz Leiber. 86 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
