The brave women who fought for equal voting rights in Britain in the early 20th century are the subject of this gripping drama. Horrified by the despicable treatment women must endure, both at home and at work, 24-year-old laundress Maud Watts (Carey Mulligan) becomes a dedicated member of the suffragette cause, putting her own life on the line as the movement is forced to resort to more violent tactics. With Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, and Meryl Streep, as real-life suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst. 107 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH), French, Spanish; featurettes; audio commentary.
