Sundown is a 1941 American black-and-white World War II film starring Gene Tierney, Bruce Cabot and George Sanders. The film was well received by critics and earned three Academy Award nominations. An aircraft lands in Kenya where Zia (Gene Tierney) disembarks and is met by a caravan in British East Africa. Bill Crawford (Bruce Cabot) is a District Commissioner and contacts the governor of Nairobi requesting a month-long furlough to study the Senshi, a local tribe. However, the Senshi are becoming hostile. A local trader named Abdi Hammud (Marc Lawrence) sets up an ambush of the British troops, but Crawford and his men are able to stop the attack. Zia, (Gene Tierney), who now runs the family network of trading outposts in East Africa arrives at the outpost. Following a birthday party in which Zia is invited, Zia is segregated because the native custom considers her to be a half-breed. The locals believe that one of the six white men at the party will die that night. After an ensuing shoot-out, Zia is grazed by a bullet. Despite her wound, Zia is ordered to leave the outpost and encounters a Nazi agent who is responsible for bringing rifles in to arm the Senshi. Much action ensues with Zia and Crawford both being kidnapped and then escaping. Their attackers. The ending will surprise you while we find both Zia and Crawford back in London. This is a classic movie packed with action. #and one you will definitely want to keep for your film collection!
