James O’Neill (playwright Eugene’s father) reprised his famed stage role as Edmond Dantès in the first of two silent adaptations of Alexandre Dumas’ novel. Falsely accused of conspiring against the king, French sailor Dantès escapes from prison and, reinventing himself as "The Count of Monte Cristo," vows revenge on those who set him up. Nance O’Neil also stars. And, Jean Angelo is the wrongly convicted Dantès in "Monte Cristo," a French filming of the tale noted for its impressionist style and use of actual locations from the novel. With Lil Dagover, Gaston Modot. 109 min. total. Standard; Soundtrack: music score. Silent with music score.
