In 1920s Copenhagen, husband-and-wife painters Einar and Gerda Wegener (Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander) knew a loving Bohemian existence. Her whimsical request to have him sub for a female model, however, would slowly draw him into uncertainty about his sexual identity...and her into conflict as she tried to render understanding and support.
