After years of estrangement, a burnt-out teacher (Valerio Mastandrea) returns to his boyhood village to be at the bedside of his dying mother (Stefania Sandrelli). In flashing back to his youth, he recalls the vivacious and sexually adventurous woman (Micaela Ramazzotti) that she was, and how their relationship was in turns tender, fatiguing, and complex.
