Gidget (1959)
The bubbly "girl midget"--Francine "Gidget" Lawrence (Sandra Dee)--made her screen bow in this teenage comedy, which was also the inaugural entry in the ‘60s "beach party" genre. Sandra Dee’s sole credit as Gidget finds the petite would-be surfer trying to choose between rival waveriders Kahuna (Cliff Robertson) and Moondoggie (James Darren). Arthur O'Connell, Doug McClure, and Yvonne Craig also star in this adaptation of Frederick Kohner’s novel "Gidget, The Little Girl with Big Ideas." 95 min. C/Rtg: NR
Gidget Goes Hawaiian (1961)
In the second "Gidget" (Deborah Walley) film, everyone’s favorite surfin’ girl is bummed to learn that her parents have planned a family vacation to Hawaii during the two weeks her boyfriend Moondoggie (James Darren) is home from college. Gidget heads to Waikiki where she finds fun and romance (naturally) with a dancer, but what happens when Moondoggie misses his girl and decides to make the trip himself? Michael Callan, Peggy Cass, and Carl Reiner also star. 101 min. C/Rtg: NR
Gidget Goes To Rome (1963)
Before she takes a big step into higher learning, college-bound Gidget (Cindy Carol) and steady beau Moondoggie (James Darren), along with their clique or friends, take off for a summer-long Rome vacation. Fortunately, Mr. Lawrence’s friend Paolo (Cesare Danova) is on hand to keep an eye on Gidge; unfortunately, she becomes smitten with the dark, handsome—and much older—man! Co-stars Don Porter, Jeff Donnell, Jessie Royce Landis. 104 min. C/Rtg: NR
Gidget Gets Married (1972)
Second made-for-TV adventure for the maturing surfer girl (Monie Ellis) finds her tying the knot with Moondoggie (Michael Burns) and leaving the California beaches behind for his new job in Florida. When she discovers that the paycheck comes with long hours, and a stifling corporate culture, Gidget decides to show the bosses who the real chairwoman of the board is! Don Ameche, Joan Bennett, Macdonald Carey, Elinor Donahue, and Paul Lynde co-star. 74 min. C/Rtg: NR
