Returning to his small Indiana hometown for his mother's funeral, hot-shot Chicago attorney Hank Palmer (Robert Downey, Jr.) learns that his estranged father Joseph (Robert Duvall)─the local judge─has been accused of murdering a man he once sent to jail.
