In 1913, Thomas Edison delighted the early moviegoing public with the breakthrough but short-lived Kinetophone system, which offered cylinder-recorded sound synchronized with the projected image. Of the 200 Edison Company-produced 1913 shorts, eight survive, and are presented here: "The Edison Kinetophone," "Musical Blacksmiths," "Nursery Favorites," "The Deaf Mute," "The Edison Minstrels," "The Five Bachelors," "The Old Guard," and "Jack's Joke." 76 min. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English; featurette; bonus silent short "The Politician" (1913).
