In the 19th century, meek, Boston-bred Ricardo (Frank Sinatra) returned to his native California, expecting to run his late father’s inn. His dad’s cronies, though, want him to assume the old man’s true legacy--the identity of a notorious and romantic robber. Ricardo’s comical attempts at outlaw life do get him the notice of the governor’s beautiful daughter (Kathryn Grayson).
