In early-1830s Jamaica, sugar cane plantation slave July (Tamara Lawrance) was adjusting to her house role for overbearing mistress Caroline Mortimer (Hayley Atwell), as well as the presence of progressive new overseer Robert Goodwin (Jack Lowden). Their intertwined fates during the 1831 Christmas Rebellion and the years of social change that followed are strikingly limned in this BBC adaptation of the Andrea Levy novel. Lenny Henry, Sharon Duncan-Brewster co-star. 180 min on two discs. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.
