Young British wastrel Dennis Barlow (Robert Morse) came to Hollywood to sponge off his studio art director uncle Francis (John Gielgud), and had his plans dashed by Francis’s abrupt suicide. As he endeavors to make the burial arrangements--and sees the profits made by the sanctimonious hustlers at the funeral parlor--he concludes that the bereavement industry is the life for him.
