Richard Chamberlain essays dual roles as the 17th-century French king Louis XIV and as the title hero, Louis' twin brother Philippe, in this loose adaptation of the Dumas novel. Raised without knowledge of his birthright, firstborn Philippe is imprisoned anonymously in the Bastille while Louis becomes a puppet leader manipulated by a corrupt finance minister (Patrick McGoohan).
