Faced with deportation back to Canada, tough-as-nails book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) promises assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) a big promotion--if he marries her. With an immigration official sniffing around, the faux couple tries to prove they're the real deal by spending a weekend with Andrew's family in his Alaska hometown.
