For this deeply personal project, John Ford returned to the Auld Sod to helm this anthology that adapted diverse selections from Irish literature. A cop (Cyril Cusack) is faced with doubt when trying to serve a warrant for assault on a charismatic old ne'er-do-well (Noel Purcell); a supposedly brief stop for a passenger train turns into a series of comic calamities; and two Abbey Theatre actresses make an audacious bid to rescue a dissident (Donal Donnelly) from the gallows.
