Young ballet student Meg Merlin (Margaret O’Brien) becomes upset when Ariane Bouchet, the dancer (Cyd Charisse) she idolizes, loses the lead in a production of "Swan Lake" to visiting prima ballerina Anna La Darina (Karin Booth). But Meg’s plan to sabotage the performance gets out of hand, resulting in Anna suffering an injury that ends her career. Now, Meg must cope with devastating guilt while Ariane goes on to be a star.
