On the eve of an interview with a political journalist, a government translator falls from a roof to his death. His father, former British navy officer Frank Jones (Michael Caine), becomes suspicious when the death is ruled an accident and decides to conduct an investigation himself, unwittingly leading him into a world of deadly espionage.
