First, Lillian Gish excels as Angela Chiaromonte, an Italian aristocrat who’s driven from her estate and has her inheritance stolen by her ruthless half-sister after their father’s death. After her sweetheart (Ronald Colman) is declared dead in Arabia, Angela decides to become a nun. Gail Kane also stars in "The White Sister," a silent melodrama directed by Henry King. Then, renowned director Victor Fleming revamps "The White Sister" as a talkie. This time, Helen Hayes takes on the lead role of Angela, who becomes completely grief-stricken after learning that her military beau (Clark Gable) has been killed in World War I. It's then that she decides to forgo human passion for God’s love, as a nun. However, what will Angela do when her beloved miraculously returns and begs her to renounce her vows? With Lewis Stone. 4 hrs. total on two discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital stereo, Dolby Digital mono.
