In rural 19th century Vietnam, 14-year-old May (Nguyen Phuong Tra My) was offered as a bride to the wealthy, middle-aged--and already twice-married-- Hung (Le Vu Long). Realizing that the ability to produce a male heir will make her place in the pecking order with fellow wives Ha (Tran Nu Yen Khe) and Xuan (Mai Thu Huong May), her efforts to meet expectations will meet with sad consequences.
