Life and purpose have pretty much left George Hammond (Richard Gere) behind, as he drifts through Manhattan's streets and subways to scrounge for food and shelter--and through the city's bureaucracy for the homeless and mentally ill. A Bellevue stay brings him unexpected comfort from the friendship of an old jazzman (Ben Vereen)--and, perhaps, the will to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Jena Malone).
