After killing his father to protect his mother when he was a teen, Bill Clark (Steve Cochran) emerges from a long prison stint hoping to rejoin polite society. Bill is forced to leave town when news of his release is publicized, leading him to New York, a whirlwind romance with a dance hall girl (Ruth Roman), and new complications that drive the lovers to flee for their lives.
