Trying to keep his terminally ill wife (Vanessa Redgrave) as happy as possible, Arthur (Terence Stamp) reluctantly agrees to take her place in a seniors' choir when she becomes too sick to participate. At first terribly embarrassed by the idea of singing in front of people, Arthur slowly comes out of his shell, leading to unexpected new friendships and prompting him to reconnect with his estranged son (Christopher Eccleston).
