Two Cuban children─Malú, a young girl with a devout Catholic mother, and Jorgito, the son of dedicated communists─become best friends over their families' objections. When her mother announces plans to leave the country, Malú convinces Jorgito to join her on a quest to find her estranged father, so that he can help her stay.
