The novel "The Three Godfathers" by Peter B. Kyne was the inspiration for this pair of western tales. First, William Wyler's "Hell's Heroes" stars Charles Bickford, Raymond Hatton, and Fred Kohler as bank robbers who happen upon a dying pregnant woman and become the unlikely guardians to her baby after promising to track down the father. Fritzi Ridgeway, Joe De La Cruz also star. And, Chester Morris, Walter Brennan, and Lewis Stone are the outlaws and reluctant babysitters forced to traverse an arid desert in order to get the child back to civilization, in "Three Godfathers." With Irene Hervey, Sidney Toler. 149 min. total on two discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; theatrical trailer.
