The Witches Of Eastwick (1987)
When devilish stranger Daryl Van Horne (Jack Nicholson) enters a New England village and takes up residence in a luxurious mansion, he becomes an object of gossip all over town. The rakish newcomer turns up the heat by seducing three local women (Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Susan Sarandon), releasing supernatural powers they never knew they possessed. Director George Miller’s stylish, darkly funny adaptation of the John Updike novel co-stars Veronica Cartwright and Richard Jenkins. 118 min. C/Rtg: R
The Witches (1990)
An enchanting, thrilling fantasy starring Anjelica Huston as the leader of a coven of evil witches who wants to turn all of England’s children into mice. A young boy accidentally stumbles into their meeting and is transformed into a rodent, but he and his grandmother have a plan to turn the tides on the sorceress. Nicolas Roeg directs this adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, with special effects by Jim Henson. Mai Zetterling, Jasen Fisher, Rowan Atkinson co-star. 92 min. C/Rtg: PG
Practical Magic (1998)
The bewitching duo of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman shines in this comedic fantasy/romance, playing sisters who turn to the witchcraft their family’s practiced for generations in order to overcome an ancient curse that’s responsible for their stagnant love lives. Dianne Wiest, Stockard Channing and Aidan Quinn also star; directed by Griffin Dunne ("Addicted to Love"). 157 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
The Witches (2020)
Back in 1968, orphaned Chicago kid Charlie Hansen (Jahzir Bruno) felt lucky in moving to Alabama with his loving grandma Agatha (Octavia Spencer). That'd change when they went to a local hotel hosting a coven of conventioneer witches...and he fell prey to the schemes of their leader (Anne Hathaway) to transform the world's children into mice. Second screen pass at the Roald Dahl fantasy from Robert Zemeckis also stars Stanley Tucci and the voice of Kristin Chenoweth; Chris Rock narrates. 106 min. C/Rtg: PG
