Matthew Broderick gives a fantastically multi-layered performance in this bittersweet dark comedy about a failed children's folk musician whose cynical worldview is reinforced when his roommate and friend (Michael Kenneth Williams) suddenly falls ill. But Broderick is struck by an unexpected dose of optimism which comes in the lovely form of Williams' sister (Sanaa Lathan), who comes to stay with him while her brother is sick.
